THE CHALCEDON FOUNDATION formed in 1965, the brainchild of Rousas John Rushdoony, a Calvinist philosopher and the founder of Christian Reconstructionism. Sometimes called “dominionism,” it’s the belief  “that Christians, and Christians alone, are Biblically mandated to occupy all secular institutions until Christ returns,” writes Sara Diamond in her 1995 book Roads to Dominion: Right-Wing Movements and Political Power in the United States. Critics have called dominionism “.” Rushdoony openly stated that homosexuality, murder, adultery and a myriad of other things should be punished with the death penalty. The Southern Poverty Law Center lists the Chalcedon Foundation as an anti-gay group.
