This was a historic day in a historic week. This afternoon, President Joe Biden nominated Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to the Supreme Court. “For too long, our government, our courts haven’t looked like America,” Biden said in a speech introducing Jackson. “I believe it’s time that we have a court that reflects the full talents and greatness of our nation with a nominee of extraordinary qualifications, and that we inspire all young people to believe that they can one day serve their country at the highest level.”

Banging a cast iron skillet with a big spoon…

I’m starting this because I was put in Facebook jail for 24 hours after taking on a Trump supporting Putin apologizer, by highlighting what the Ukrainian ambassador said to the Russian Ambassador at the United Nations. “There is no purgatory for war criminals, they go straight to hell, Ambassador.” And then as now I’m quoting from memory. Admittedly, I may have suggested the same end for the misguided apologizer. As I write this hell has landed upon the Ukrainian people, a functioning Democracy the size of Texas, and I’ve not ever been to, nor do I know any Ukrainian people. I do know it was a part of Russia for a long time, I do know while they have different languages it is similar like Norwegian and Swedish, I know through planned starvation and executions Russia as the Soviet Union killed as many as 7 million people during the Stalin era in Ukraine. I know it was where Chernobyl is. I watched the Maidan Revolution in 2014 as it played out on YouTube. I know they revolted over having a Russian puppet installed as the ruler to do the bidding of Vladimir Putin and his Russian kleptocratic oligarchs. I know now it took him eight years to decide to get even and attempt again to establish an authoritarian anti-democratic despotic regime to do Russia’s bidding; and doing so with the tools of war and the current ongoing blood bath. I know the west is helpless to help the plight of the Ukrainian people with direct military aid meaning boots on the ground troops coming to their defense. This can’t be done because the Ukrainians were not in club NATO despite the fact they asked to join. The valiant Ukrainians will fight for their lives and their Democracy. I also know that there are those in this country in high places of media influence and politics that are championing Putin’s aggression, genocide, and lies. Those same people championed Trumps aggression, genocide, and lies.

Five takeaways from the Report on Christian Nationalism and January 6 – Baptist News Global

On Feb. 9, Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty, in tandem with their movement “Christians Against Christian Nationalism” and in partnership with the Freedom From Religion Foundation, held a livestreamed event that introduced their new comprehensive report on the influence of Christian nationalism in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. After some introductory chapters on Christian nationalism itself, the report describes, in stunning detail, the central role Christian imagery and personal influencers played that day and in the lead-up to it. The images and firsthand accounts leave no doubt that the presence of this distorted, militant version of Christianity was not just present in the crowd but was front and center — literally — in many events and online forums for two months after the Nov. 3, 2020, election, up to and including Jan. 6.

“Last year the Rand Corporation (of all people) produced an incredible study that estimated that tax and benefit policy changes since 1980, if you counterfactually regress everything back to 1980, and say if nothing had changed: what would the income and wealth distribution look like? Their estimate is that 36 trillion worth of income and wealth has been vacuumed up to the top one percent since 1980 –simply because of tax and benefit changes.” Mark Blythe, Economist Brown University
