¹I produced an earlier treatise, O Theophilus, concerning everything Jesus initiated, both as a practice and as a teaching, ²Until the day when he was taken above, having issued instructions through a Holy Spirit to the Apostles he had chosen, ³To whom, after he had suffered, he showed himself alive by many irrefutable proofs, being seen by them over a period of forty days and telling them things about the Kingdom of God; ⁴And, meeting with them, he enjoined them not to depart from Jerusalem, but rather to “Await the promise of the Father, which you heard from me: ⁵Because John indeed baptized of water; but you will be baptized in a Spirit, the Holy one, not many days hereafter.” ⁶So, then, coming together they questioned him, saying, “Lord, are you restoring the kingdom of Israel at this time?” ⁷He said to them, “It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has set by his own authority, ⁸But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all Judaea and Samaria, even to the end of the earth.” ⁹And saying these things, as they were watching, he was taken up, and a cloud took him from their eyes.
